Little bits of 10/1, 2, 4, 7, 11, and 12. Also, N1 memorized (with some screaming).

Returning to the score after living without it for a few weeks; finding focus in the new school year; the hardest measure in 10/11; a practice method to get 10/12 up to tempo; work-in-progress version of N1.

All of Op. 10, from memory, in one big chunk, for the first time here. As you’ll hear, it’s still completely a work in progress (especially that my concentration really gave out in the middle), but I wanted you to hear the pieces coming together as a coherent whole.

The podcast will be on hiatus in August but will return in September. Best wishes for an enjoyable, productive rest of the summer, and thanks for being my practice buddy!

92: Tin Pan Alley Preview

A report on last week’s recording session, including maintaining a feeling of gratitude while recording; a few Tin Pan Alley tunes;on returning to practicing Chopin.

Tunes played here include “Whippoorwill,” “My Little Ever Lovin’ Sugar Babe,” “He’d Have to Get Under–Get Out And Get Under (To Fix Up His Automobile),” and “Twilight.” To the best of my knowledge, they’re all public domain.

I’ll post a link here when the CD gets released.

91: Traction

Mostly talk, but some snippets; on making changes and not beating yourself up for mistakes (I’m working on it). Also some specifics about 25/9 and 10/10.

Hanging out on a ledge, partway up the mountain; simplified versions of the three “new” etudes.

A performing first, a new piano, and a newly quiet office (because of noise for now).

Plus snippets of all of Op. 10 and some Op. 25.

A mild epiphany about my learning patterns; summer begins; horrible crash-through renditions of 10/1 and 10/2.

A bittersweet, rainy day; the first nouvelle etude, simplified; practicing (and wondering about a note in) 25/10; a new way to think about listening, courtesy of Madeline Bruser.

A report on a performance of six of the etudes from Op. 10, with a little bit of coughing.
